Overview
In Jungian psychology, the Anima and
Animus represent the inner feminine in
men and the inner masculine in women.
But more broadly, they speak to the
soul-image: the often repressed,
opposite-gendered aspect of our psyche
that carries intuition, feeling, wisdom,
and projection. The Anima is not about
being female, and the Animus is not
about being male. They are symbolic
forces that influence how we relate to
creativity, love, authority, and selfexpression.
Jung saw these archetypes
as bridges to the unconscious, portals to
the deeper self. As we integrate them,
we become more whole.
