When Students Cross a Threshold

When my DP2 students left on Saturday, I didn’t feel sad. I felt something closer to joy because I could see what they had become. Not what they had made. What they had become.

The Connections Study

The Connections Study is its own entity: not an update of the old Comparative Study, not a version of anything taught before. This is a live thread and will grow to cover every section of the CS. Come back at each stage: there will always be something new here.

Student-Led Inquiry

What it looks like when a student truly lives in inquiry: no fixed destination, no predetermined question, just making that knows where it’s going before the student does. Stages 4 and 5, with a full student exemplar.

Resources

A curated collection of unit plans, assessment tools, projects, vocabulary support, newsletters and teaching resources designed to support inquiry-led practice within the new IB Visual Arts course.

The Artist Project

This is a live thread, starting with the proposal. It will grow to cover every section of the AP. Come back at each stage — there will always be something new here.

The Art-Making Inquiries Portfolio

Nobody has done this before. The AIP is genuinely new, and understanding it didn’t come from reading the guide. It came from teaching, from living inside it, and from finding the pattern that makes it legible. This thread is about that pattern, and what it means for how we teach.

Teacher-Led Inquiry

At this stage, inquiry is still held quite closely by the teacher. Students are learning how to respond, how to explore, and how to stay with something rather than rush to resolution.

Before the work can begin

What if the issue isn’t what students know, but their capacity to stay in relation to what they are making? This Musing explores that question, and offers a few practices that are beginning to shift things.

Teaching from the Inside Out

On the boy who found his lost friends in a tent, the heart that sank at a flawless exhibition, and thirty years of undoing what my own art education taught me.

Hi there,

Thanks for signing up! It’s lovely to have you here.

Art-Ed Hub is more than just a resource bank; it’s a growing space for creative inquiry, thoughtful teaching, and the kind of soulful exploration that often gets lost in the rush of curriculum and outcomes. Whether you’re here for the IB Visual Arts support, the creative prompts, or just a bit of inspiration, I hope you find something that resonates.

Every now and then, I’ll drop into your inbox with new resources, reflections, or behind-the-scenes updates. Nothing overwhelming, just things I genuinely think are worth sharing.

Warm wishes,
Nikki
